Mrs Jones’ June Sports Update: What a fabulous week we have had this week in terms of sporting activities.
On Monday Silver and Bronze classes took part in tennis taster sessions in the playground run by Delgado & Lee Pro Academy / Living Tennis. The children had so much fun, impressed us all with their skills and we're sure we might have a future Wimbledon champion amongst them!
Also on Monday, Year 3/4 took part in a dance workshop as part of their Brazilian Day learning various Latin dance moves including a lift. Well done Year 3/4 - keeep dancing!
Tuesday this week saw the whole school take part in Sports Day in glorious weather conditions. The morning events were a carousel of different activities where the children competed in cross-year groups from Reception to Year 6. We were very proud of the children for their effort and their great sportsmanship. Particular praise to those Year 6 children that were the team leaders - it's not an easy task to keep your team all together when moving around!
Congratulations to Green team who were our morning winners overall.
The afternoon saw Year 6 opening the KS2 House Events with a ribbon run across the field. It was a joyful sight and a fantastic way for them to mark their last Claytons Sports Day. During the afternoon all children competed for their House in at least one of the following events: sprint, skipping, standing long jump, seated throw and relay. Throughout the afternoon, the children demonstrated their skill, agility and resilience with everyone trying so hard and motivating each other.
Our overall winner this year was Thames - congratulations to all!
On Wednesday morning, 10 children from Years 4-6 travelled to Halton Tennis Centre, near Wendover, to experience 2 hours of tennis coaching. The children took part in fun games and some progressed to playing mini matches. All the children improved their skills during the morning and behaved beautifully during the sessions. They were a real credit to Claytons and I was very proud of them. Many thanks to Mrs Lutterman, Mrs Cavendish and Mrs Jordan for their support during the morning.
Next week we have a Dance Workshop for KS1 and the after-school Wye Valley Field Events for some of our Year 5/6 athletes
